Volunteers and pupils celebrate diversity at International evening

International_eveningCity Year UK volunteers recently organised an ‘international evening’ where around 60 pupils came together to celebrate different heritages and demonstrate unity through diversity

The event was held at our partner school William Ellis and attended by parents and City Year UK staff as well as volunteers and pupils.

There were food and performances from different cultures, celebrating the range of nationalities present at the school. Performances included Colombian guitar playing, Bengali poetry and Kosovan dancing.International_evening_2

Volunteer Tobi commented:

”It was amazing to see pupils take ownership of the event, setting up beforehand with food decorations, stalls, being country ambassadors and hosting the evening.”

Sam White, head teacher at William Ellis, said

“Please pass on my thanks to the City Year volunteers who helped make the night such a celebration of our vibrant community. So impressed with the team spirit and the willingness of other City Year teams to support each other”.
