We are delighted to have been awarded a grant from The Old Trafford and Stretford Voluntary Sector Grants Scheme, which allocates and donates £20,000 every year to local charities working on causes in Old Trafford and Stretford in Greater Manchester.
City Year UK were selected, along with around 20 other charities, to be part of a community fundraising event held at the local shopping centre. The general public were encouraged to vote for charities whose work they’d like to see more of in the community.
City Year volunteers who are based at Stretford High attended the event and spoke passionately about the vital work they do supporting pupils through 1:1 academic and pastoral support and breakfast, lunchtime and after-school clubs. Many voters engaged about the importance of the the future generation being allowed to prosper.
The grant will contribute towards supporting breakfast club at Stretford High for the whole school population of 800 students. Breakfast clubs provide an invaluable opportunity for pupils to eat a nourishing meal, play games, relax, engage in conversation with volunteers, receive help with homework and reflect on the day ahead.
