Ferry Lane Primary School, Tottenham
24 October, 2011
35 volunteers gave up their time to help their community for the day.
158 hours served in revitalising Ferry Lane Primary School.
4 projects volunteered in throughout the school grounds.
At 12 o’clock, a hall full of eager volunteers were talking. The buzz and bubble subsided as the opening program got underway. In no time at all our ARAMARK Civic Engagement Team had everyone on their feet doing starjumps. Energised and itching to begin, we all separated into our projects. On the agenda today: a considerable amount of weeding; sanding and varnishing benches; and painting. Outside, weapons in hand, our brave volunteers began the attack on the long thick thorn bushes and dense congregations of stinging nettles, brushing off the pricks and stings of the unrelenting plants. Inside, the volunteers were preparing the entrance area to the school as well as a corridor for painting. With the displays taped up to protect them from the paint, the team got to work splashing on the ‘holiday blues’. Despite the name, the paint dried to a cheerful light blue that brightened up the entrance area. At 2 o’clock we all took a break for a late lunch and with our stomachs full we got to work again for a final push to complete our projects. By the end of the day, everything was completed to an exceptional standard. Ian, the site manager, expressed his utmost appreciation of our work; we left the school more colourful and vibrant, as well as a safer environment for the children to work and play in.
