City Year UK supporter wins Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Volunteering Award

We were delighted to learn that Serina Ramkhelawon has won a Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Volunteering Award for her work with City Year UK.

Serina, who is a Liquidity Product Sales specialist at the bank, first came across us when her team worked with colleagues in the EMEA Corporate Social Responsibility group on its search for a non-profit partner that aligned with their professional skills and interests.  Finding City Year UK to be a perfect fit, she’s since become a champion for the whole organisation and the bank’s sponsorship of our team at William Ellis School.  Speaking at our fifth birthday party recently, the school’s head teacher spelled out how important that sponsorship is and highlighted the “many contributions” our volunteers make to the school, including “the fantastic part” they’ve played in its turnaround.

Serina has also been instrumental in mobilising 30 members of staff from Bank of America Merrill Lynch to give their time in support of our volunteers. Over the past year, they have taught interview skills, been involved in CV workshops, participated in a panel discussion on career development and many have become mentors, giving ongoing guidance to make sure that our young volunteers make a successful next step after their ‘City Year’.   She’s even mentored two City Year UK volunteers herself.  Congratulations Serina!
