City Year London reaches finals of national volunteering awards

City Year London has been named as one of just three finalists in the vInspired national awards.

The annual awards are the largest of their kind, celebrating the achievements and dedication of young volunteers.  They aim to challenge negative attitudes towards young people by highlighting the creativity , motivation and generosity of some of the most inspiring young volunteers in the country.

The City Year London team has been nominated as a national finalist for London in the ‘Best Team’ category. Read More »

MORE THAN 500 YOUNG PEOPLE APPLY TO JOIN CITY YEAR AS CHILDREN’S MINISTER VISITS

More than 500 young people have now applied to join City Year to ‘give up a year and change the world.’

City Year recruits passionate 18-25 year olds to work on a full time but voluntary basis in inner city schools.

Cabinet Office Minister, Francis Maude meets City Year London volunteers

Cabinet Office Minister, Francis Maude today made a special visit to Whitmore Primary School in Hackney to meet City Year volunteers and see firsthand how they are making a big difference at the school.

Mr Maude met Head teacher, Penny Smith and City Year team leader Chilima Sianyeuka for a tour of the school and to observe some of the classes where City Year corps members are supporting teachers and helping children. Read More »


City Year London moves into Brixton and Tottenham

6 January 2012

City Year London has expanded its mentoring programme into two new London boroughs as new volunteers join up with two secondary schools, located in Haringey and Lambeth.

City Year volunteers, in their iconic red bomber jackets, will be serving at Gladesmore Community School in Tottenham and the ARK school, Evelyn Grace Academy, in Brixton; acting as role models and supporting tutors to the students. Read More »
