ONE YEAR CAN LAST A LIFETIME

There are many reasons that young people spend a year with us. Some welcome the opportunity to make a difference, some are attracted to the chance to develop new skills, some fancy a challenge and some want a mixture of all of these things. But one thing’s for sure: by the time you finish you’ll have a clearer sense of where you want to get to in life and the skills you’ll need to get there.

ONE YEAR CAN TRANSFORM A LIFECity Year volunteer with children

It’s not just your life that will change for the better. By giving a year of your time and experience you’ll help create an environment where children from disadvantaged communities can enjoy school, feel confident and achieve their potential. Educational inequality is one of the UK’s biggest social problems, and you are part of the solution.

ONE YEAR CAN MAKE YOU A LEADER

If there’s one thing that all our young people have in common, it’s acting as a role model for the pupils they support. You’ll become someone they look
up to and trust,
and this is an incredibly empowering experience.Aarom_programme It also helps build your own sense of leadership, developing skills in problem-solving, public speaking, decision-making and communication. When it’s combined with specialist training, coaching and career guidance, you’ll see how one year of giving can turn into a lifetime of achievement.

ONE YEAR CAN CHANGE THE WORLD

It’s a big claim, but one we stand by. Of course you might not be front page news or receiving knighthoods from the Queen. Not yet anyway. But big waves start with small ripples, and by driving social change through City Year you can spark the change you want to see in the world.

It’s amazing how much fun you can have outside your comfort zone. By pushing yourself and others around you, you’ll share new experiences and develop strong friendships. Our young people have met presidents and prime ministers, appeared on Sky TV and on stage at the Albert Hall. They’ve organised talent shows and football tournaments and gained work experience at top UK brands. All things you can look back on with pride and happiness.

Don’t just take our word for it, here’s what our current volunteers, schools, alumni and your potential future employers say.
