City Year UK wins DfE Character Award

City Year UK is delighted to have been recognised as a leader in character education by winning a Department for Education Character Award. Our ‘50 acts of greatness ‘club is one example of an initiative we run which is focused on helping pupils with behavioural problems develop relationship skills and social-emotional awareness.

Winners of the Character Awards were chosen by a panel of experts and included 21 schools and six charities, all of which were recognised for work promoting resilience and determination in young people. City Year UK and Nesta recently hosted an event which saw US experts on education reform joining specialists here to share transatlantic insights into closing the education gap in the UK.

The panel included Sonia Blandford from Achievement for All 3As, Dr Gil Noam of Harvard University, Graeme Duncan from Right to Succeed, Dr Robert Balfanz of John Hopkins University and Jim Balfanz, President City Year Inc.
