On Thursday 17th September, we teamed up with Aramark and two of our partner schools to host a day of activities on the theme of ‘workplace readiness’ as part of its Building Community Day, a global initiative involving more than 200 events and thousands of staff from the international food service company.
Over 300 Year 9 pupils from across William Ellis School in Camden and Holte School in Birmingham were inspired and encouraged to begin to think about the workplace with fun sessions including an interactive business challenge in the style of ‘The Apprentice’, together with workshops advising on themes ranging from job interview skills to career path decisions.
City Year London corps member, Emma Beeson added: “I never had this kind of opportunity to hear direct from employers when I was at school. Having seen the impact Aramark’s had on the Year 9s today, I wish I had. It’s really helped them begin to think about what employers look for, what skills they’re going to need to get the jobs they want and that there’s no such thing as a typical career path!”
