Young people are the future

“Young people are the future. I believe that without their contribution there is no hope.  We need to empower them to make a difference. I’m a walking example. Back in 2010 I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I wasn’t in the best space or place but I thought I’d like to give back to my local community.  I signed up to volunteer at what was then a brand new charity, City Year London, and joined a school team in Hackney, where I grew up.

City Year believed in me and made me realise what I could achieve – that I could do anything that I wanted to do.  That’s the essence of City Year and that’s why I’m still here, now managing the London programme.

The need for City Year London is more prevalent than ever. Children need to learn how to learn again. Young people need to have opportunities to develop their skills, challenge themselves and gain experience.  We’re doing both at the same time.”
