- ABOUT CITY YEAR UK
160 talented and inspirational young people from across the country have embarked on a ‘City Year’ this week, serving for the next 11 months in 24 inner-city schools as role models, mentors and tutors.
Volunteering full-time Monday to Thursday they’ll play a crucial role supporting thousands of pupils in and out of the classroom, helping them to enjoy and make the most of their education.
In return, the 18-24 year olds, known as corps members, will be given personal, professional and leadership development opportunities, with a training and careers programme run every Friday in conjunction with corporate supporters.
Sophie Livingstone, Chief Executive of City Year UK, said: “We wish all our corps members the best of luck for the school year ahead. Every September, I’m bowled over by their passion and determination to make a difference to pupils growing up in some of our toughest communities, but the next 11 months is also about our volunteers’ self-development and I hope that they’ll find their City Year’s just as life changing.”
