What we do
Our young people give a year to help break down the many barriers that can come between pupils and their education. That's an enormous commitment and one that we believe should be rewarded. In turn, we invest in our volunteers - in their skills, in their networks and in their future.
Near-peer mentors and tutors
Our volunteers are old enough to be role models, but young enough to be relatable. They provide extra capacity throughout the school day - running clubs and offering coaching and learning support - but schools, pupils and parents also value them for the unique way they build trust and self-belief.
"I believe that, with my team, we showed kids that there are people that care about them and want them to do well. We supported those from difficult backgrounds - who may not always be put first. By us doing what we did, we showed them they do matter and they are a priority."
Professional development
By helping pupils learn, our volunteers learn too - through their real world experience in school and our structured leadership development programme. Together, they build skills and networks useful for any future career.
"City Year UK helps you in ways you will continue to discover for years - there is so much that sinks in to you as a person and as a professional without you even realising."
