Where could your City Year lead?
We believe that your year should also serve as a launch pad for your career. Learning through real world experience in school will be underpinned by training, coaching and networking in a professional environment.
Learn about you
A City Year gives you the time and opportunity to find out about you; your strengths and weaknesses, your interests and your aims. In the wise words of one of our alumni: "Use your City Year to think!"
“You won't just build your leadership skills, you'll build your character and self-confidence. Looking back, you'll realise just how much you've changed and that is incredible.”
Gain stand out skills and experience
There’s a clear skills match between what employers want and the capabilities you can develop through full-time volunteering or social action: communication, confidence, negotiation and influencing, time management, creative thinking, resilience and much more...
“It will be one of the experiences you will want to keep on your CV - no matter how high up on the career ladder you climb - it's a great talking point at interviews and while networking.”
Give a year - prepare for any career
You’ll have access to people from across the public, private and charity sectors. Through workshops, guest speakers and your own mentor, you will gain transferable skills, networks and insight into a broad range of career opportunities. Our City Year Mentors have gone on to roles in everything from education and social work to finance, marketing and many others.
A snapshot survey of over 150 of our alumni found that City Year UK:
Helped them prepare for their career.
Had a significant positive impact on their life.
Helped them to work with people from different backgrounds.
Would recommend the experience to a friend.
“The people you meet will help you to open doors you never thought possible.”
