Life after City Year
Our alumni go on to roles across the public, private and charity sector and more than 9 out of 10 are in education or employment within 3 months of finishing their City Year. Find out what some of them have been up to and how, as an alum, you can stay involved.
Meet our alumni
When Rodney graduated from university he didn’t have a career in mind and was simply looking for something worthwhile. He joined City Year London in its infancy and a decade later, is a City Year UK trustee and chair of our alumni committee. In 2018, Rodney was named in Empower’s list of 50 Ethnic Minority Future Leaders.
Read Rodney's storyBeth was one of our first City Year Mentors in the West Midlands and ended up joining our staff team and staying for a further four years! Since leaving, she has continued to support social mobility either through direct roles, or at institutions with a clear strategy to support all young people regardless of background.
Read Beth's storySaajidah volunteered in Greater Manchester in 2016 following her A Levels. Through City Year UK she found her passion for working with children who need extra support and that’s exactly what she has been doing ever since. She talks about the positive impact she was able to make and the difference the children made to her!

It is striking how many of our alumni carry their commitment to social change with them. A snapshot survey found that nearly three quarters have volunteered or participated in a community service project after City Year, while 33% work in education and 22% in the charity sector.
