Welcome to City Year Greater Manchester
Based in Pollard Yard, a vibrant hub known for its creative and promising start-ups, City Year Greater Manchester has three passions: tackling educational inequality, empowering diverse young people to gain skills by giving back and, last but not least, the city itself!
Supporting pupils in school
Around 200,000 children are living in poverty in Greater Manchester. Many need more support to make the most of their education than even the best schools have the resources to provide. Our highly trained and dedicated young people volunteer to give that extra help. As role models, mentors and tutors they’re there for individual pupils and the whole school, every day for a year.
Since 2015, young people volunteering through City Year Greater Manchester have given over a quarter of a million hours. They’ve supported thousands of pupils from some of the region’s most disadvantaged communities to enjoy and succeed in school.
We’re committed to investing in our volunteers to help them prepare for their future career. Their real world experience in school is underpinned by training, coaching and networking in a professional environment.

Research shows that children are more engaged and achieve more when they are connected to at least one adult at school. Our volunteers have time to build trust, coach pupils and show them what they are capable of.
