Youth social action for a fairer future
City Year UK is a youth and education charity which empowers 18 to 25-year-olds, from all backgrounds, to tackle educational inequality through a year of full-time volunteering in schools.
Bridging the attainment gap
Strong leadership and excellent teaching aren't always enough to close the attainment gap between pupils from lower income backgrounds and their better off peers. Sometimes schools need more resources to deal with all the issues that can come between a child and their education. Our highly trained and dedicated young people volunteer to fill the gap - supporting individual pupils and the whole school, every day.
What we do
Our volunteers are in school all day, mentoring and coaching pupils on their social, emotional and academic skills, because they believe in their potential.
Our volunteers don’t just make a difference to the pupils they support. They acquire valuable personal and professional skills so that their year of change leads to a lifetime of opportunity.
We are pioneers of using full-time social action in the UK to address some of our most entrenched issues, but we are also part of an international movement. We want to inspire more people to take part.
