Mentor spotlight – Noah
🌟 Mentor Spotlight – 2023/24 cohort
Want to know more about the City Year experience? Read Noah’s story below to gain insight into his current journey!
1. An introductory line about you.
My name is Noah. I’m a member of Team Ubuntu, and I proudly serve as a City Year mentor at Chivenor Primary School in Birmingham. It’s been a lot of fun!
2. Why did you sign up to City Year UK?
I decided to apply to this because something about the job description really connected with me. Back when I was at school, and actually even now, I always struggled to keep up with those around me in many aspects. But the reason I was able to keep moving forward is because I had a lot of support. City Year UK provided me with the opportunity to give the same support to students who need it, just as I did. It’s a lovely organisation that aims to give every child the chance to succeed and realise their full potential, and I’m really grateful to be a part of that.
3. What has been your highlight of the year so far?
Probably the Halloween disco. Team Ubuntu stayed overtime to assist in setting up the event and supervising it and I loved it. The kids had some great costumes, the music was a real bop, and I got to cut loose with some great dance moves. The team has built some great relationships with students and the staff over the past few months, so dancing at the disco with everyone was so much fun!
4. What are you looking forward to doing with City Year UK in 2024?
Honestly, I don’t even know. Last year had so much fun stuff happening that I wasn’t even prepared for – within City Year itself, and as part of the school! Between the disco, finding out how fast I can run (not to brag or anything, but it was 12mph), and the various social events we do each half term, I honestly don’t know what to expect. But I’m really excited! I can’t wait to see what fun surprises are in store for us this year!
