“I see my role as supporting a volunteer mentor to build their capacity for leadership” – A corporate mentor or ‘Bridge Builder’s’ view
Ashley Barratt volunteers as a ‘Bridge Builder’, offering ongoing careers advice and support to Volunteer Mentors at City Year West Midlands.
“I am thrilled to be a Bridge Builder at City Year UK. The experience is always rewarding. In my work I am often guided by the ‘wisdom of youth’ and so I am proud of all involved in the development and delivery of this venture. This is a remarkable programme with breakthrough results!
I see my role as simply supporting my volunteer mentor to build their personal capability and capacity for leadership. My participation with City Year is a generative endeavour and I always learn more than I give of myself. I believe the role of all of us in society and organisations is to create meaningful work for others – especially for young people – and to support them to succeed in life: in this City Year UK is an exemplar and deserving of my support. I recommend the programme to you too!”
