Winners! Morgan Stanley Strategy Challenge 2021
Back to Impact report 2019-2021
This year for the first time, City Year UK took part in the Morgan Stanley Strategy Challenge, delivered in partnership with Pilotlight. The project gives non-profits the opportunity to work intensively with Morgan Stanley employees, pro bono, who advise on how to tackle a key strategic challenge, culminating in a final presentation in front of a judging panel.
A team of Morgan Stanley professionals worked with us for nine weeks on the development of a sustainable business model to increase our number of City Year Mentors and fund new programme delivery for pupils. It encompassed a deep dive into our current operating model, challenges and opportunities and identified potential areas for growth.
Chief Executive of City Year UK, Kevin Munday, said: “The findings and recommendations given by our team were incredibly strong. They really understood our programme and put great thought into their recommendations. The practical materials and tools developed will help us achieve our ambition to have an even greater impact on educational inequality. The team has been an absolute pleasure to work with and we are so pleased to have been part of this experience with them.”
“We are extremely proud to be working with the remarkable organisations that participated this year; many of whom have been working on the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Clare Woodman, Head of EMEA at Morgan Stanley. “With a health and economic crisis generating increasing demand for their services, charities are experiencing greater challenges than ever before. We hope the strategic recommendations provided by the Morgan Stanley employees will help the non-profits continue their impactful work and reach even more communities.”
Winning the challenge opens up some exciting opportunities for City Year UK and we are now focussed on future strategy development, using the input from our Morgan Stanley team.
