Mentor Spotlight – Sobia

🌟 Mentor Spotlight – 2023/24 cohort

Want to know more about the City Year experience? Read Sobia’s story below to gain insight into her current journey!

joys ripples appreciations display 1. An introductory line about you.

My name is Sobia Khan. I’m a member of Team Starfish, and I proudly serve as a City Year mentor at Bolton St Catherine’s Academy in Manchester.

2. Why did you sign up to City Year UK?

My university recommended City Year as a sandwich year placement as I was searching for placement opportunities after my second year of uni. Working with schools is something I have done before as a work experience placement and I would love to take this opportunity to support young people again but with City Year.

3. What has been your highlight of the year so far?

The highlight of the year for me so far was my team being much more than colleagues for me, supporting me with wellbeing and being a lovely team for me to rely on as well as the amazing supportive Impact Officers (City Year staff). I am proud to be a part of my team which brings me lots of joy to work with.

4. What are you looking forward to doing with City Year UK in 2024?

In 2024, I look forward to participating in committees and events alongside my team and to building our team relationship as mentors.
