City Year UK joins the 2024-2025 UK Year of Service Programme
We are delighted to announce that City Year UK is one of the organisations that has recently secured funding from NCS, to help run ten paid School Service Leader placements, as part of the 2024-2025 UK Year of Service programme.
Set up by the National Citizen Service (NCS) Trust and the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), the UK Year of Service Programme is a groundbreaking new initiative centered on helping 18-24-year-olds furthest from the labour market, into long-term employment. The programme offers young people the opportunity to take part in paid work placements for 30-35 hours per week, across nine to twelve months, within their local community. The NCS and DCMS have chosen City Year UK, alongside 7 other organisations with expertise in youth engagement and employment, to help deliver the programme.
Starting in April 2024, City Year UK’s School Service Leader (SSL) role, is designed to provide support to pupils in schools with their social and emotional achievement. The SSL’s will also assist with maintaining a successful school relationship as well as providing support to our City Year mentors. In line with the UK Year of Service’s mission and this year’s geographical focus, the 9-month programme is specifically targeted at those who are currently not in education, training or employment and are based in the North West region.
As a champion of full-time social action, we are incredibly excited to be a part of this fantastic initiative. We thank the NCS, the DCMS, and the UK Year of Service for their support. The development of this fantastic programme and the SSL role helps us progress our collective mission of tackling barriers to opportunity and equipping young people with essential workplace skills.
