City Year UK partner in new UK Year of Service
NCS Trust CIC today announced that they are making £6m available to fund a young people’s UK Year of Service scheme, supporting the generation most hit by Covid and reshaping lives and prospects post-pandemic. The flagship programme will see 400+ young people take part in a year of service from August this year…with recruitment starting now!
City Year UK is delighted to be one of the first placement partners, offering 20 roles as School Service Leaders, who will help pupils catch up on missed education. Other placement partners, supporting a range of public services, health and social care and the environment, include Groundwork, Volunteering Matters, Catch22, Muslim Charities Forum, St. John Ambulance, British Red Cross, The Growth Company and The Conservation Volunteers.
At the launch, City Year UK’s Patron and former Home Secretary, Rt Hon Lord Blunkett said:
“I have long been an advocate for more involved citizens and better citizenship education – today we are able to change young people’s lives and support the development of NCS in its new incarnation. This programme will build social capital and support social mobility as we try to redress the increased inequality revealed and accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic.”
